A trip to last a lifetime. I had the opportunity to join a group of medical professionals and evangelism members to provide medical aid to remote villages in the Amazon jungle. Over 500 people received medical attention and supplies, which are often scarce in their remote location. Each day, the team would gather and take a 30-45 minute boat ride to a different village along the river. The rainy season had just ended, so the river was high, and most of the villages were so flooded that dry ground could not even be seen. Makeshift bridges were made to cross from building to building by lining up boats to walk over “dry ground.” I worked in triage, obtaining vitals and gathering details about each patient. I learned that even though I may not understand the language, I can offer a smile and show a caring heart. The people were so genuine and grateful for even the simplest kind of help. The children were joyful, playing with a soccer ball, barefoot, with torn clothes. I’m reminded that the same God I serve at home is the same God they serve in the jungle. I’m grateful to be reminded of the importance of showing others the love of Christ and the gospel, even if it’s hard at times. This was a beautiful trip that was full of God providing and delivering.
